The Body Shop

  • Body Shop Packaging

The Story

This project came to me via Laura Wagner when she was with Love Packaging. At the time, there was no way to automate production of these recycled hexagonal boxes, so they were all made by hand. Tens of thousands of them.

Before finalizing the production process, I had to be certain that the boxes would remain intact if exposed to heat and humidity. To conduct the tests, I cranked a hot shower, locked the boxes in my steamy bathroom and waited to see of they would hold up. They did. Laura and I joke to this day about my “hermetically sealed testing lab”.

To produce the job, I hired a motley crew of contract workers — fondly referred to as the freak force because they were very tattooed and pierced. My tiny Dallas apartment temporarily became a production warehouse and I left town for a six week desert southwest road trip — to evaluate my life. My amazing assistant at the time, Robin Roberts, managed the project entirely and made everything happen. When I got back from the trip, I moved to L.A.
